I especially enjoy arriving to set-up a cc meet when God gives us a beautiful morning sunrise. This may not be a sport photo, but it was taken before the Elementary CC meet yesterday.

UIndy Homecoming and HCC CC Meet

Another blurred shot, perhaps my best to date. I like the movement of the extremities and yet I got the face in focus.

I traveled down to University of Indianapolis after the HCC meet. I like this cropped shot due to the lighting and the emphasis on the helmet.

New Haven Invite

I wasn't quite ready for Blake to round the corner in the lead.
I was just trying to pan.
Tents and colored flags in the background are pretty neat.

FlashRock Invite

I have been wanting to take some black and white photos at our meets. I can set it in-camera. But this one was taken in color and adjusted in Photoshop CS2. I used a method suggested by Dave Black in his Workshop at the Ranch website, October 2007 edition. It goes beyond the simple adjustments>monochrome settings. It requires some adjustments in channel mixer, color balance and shadows.

I like the moment too. I am attempting to get more shots outside the competition of racing. The preparation before the race. Little things do matter!

Maconaquah Invite

I have been trying to get a blurred background by using a slower shutter speed. I finally captured a shot that begins to work. Normally, I have been trying this type of shot at the start of the race. I really want to capture our guys, but we seem to get swallowed up in the pack as we are a slow starting team. This close-up of Jesse was the best of the day.

Lean
I like this photo as it captures the "lean" of the runner as he corners to the finish.

Shutter Priority: 1/2500 f/4

"I didn't hear him coming"

I like this shot as I captured the "look" of getting caught, just 150 meters from the finish.

Black and Gold Hokum Karem

I like the angle of this shot. But I forgot to adjust the aperture; hence the f/9 keeps the background too sharp and not blurred. Hard to remember changing factors as the meet and coaching seem to take precedence. I would like to begin working on shutter priority and seeking some blurred backgrounds at sl0wer shutter speeds.

Peyback Classic @ Lucas Oil Stadium

Photo Review: My best action shot of the night. The only Miller score. The first photo is the original, taken with the Nikon d2h. It seems that the exposure set on auto, allows a bit too much red. So, the bottom photo is adjusted in Photoshop2. Levels adjustment of red and green, perhaps too much green?

Friday Night Football--Scrimmage

Best shot of the night. I am working on capturing the "catch". A bunch of factors must come together as it did here. I like the fact this is not altered, you can see his face, with the sunlight helping here.

Top view cropped. I am not sure which photo I like the best, the bottom photo give an impression of just how high the vaulter is clearing the bar. While the cropped view demonstrates the value of less clutter in the background. Pretty typical vault shots.....

Comments: Focus and movement position of arm/ball good, but I don't like the background fence cover. Need a better background.

State Meet Final Leg--Running to Victory in 4x800R

Here is the most exciting moment at the Indiana High School State Meet. Jake Waterman is leading the race with 100 meters to go. Noblesville Millers won the 4x800 Relay by running away down the final straight.

Dropped baton 4x100 Relay

Primarily, my blog will enable me to display sports images. However, the real intention is to achieve steady improvement as a photographer, to get out and shoot, shoot and shoot some more. I feel the pressure to post my very best or at least to display the almost shots, and try to explain how it could be better. That is why, I am beginning with the above photo. This was taken at the Lafayette Jeff Regional in 2006. I was in the infield taking a photo of our pole vaulter. I realized the 4x100 second exchange was coming my way. I turned and tried to get a photo of our county rivals exchange. We did not have a team competing in the race. Unfortunately, Carmel dropped the baton, I caught the action moment. My shutter speed was only 1/200, a bit blurred, I think.
